Privacy policy

We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Last updated: April 2026

1. Who we are

This website, thesocialtenant.co.uk ("the site"), is operated by The Social Tenant ("we", "us", "our"). We provide free letter generators and housing guides for UK council and housing association tenants.

For any privacy-related questions, you can contact us at hello@thesocialtenant.co.uk.

2. What data we collect

We have designed this site to collect as little personal data as possible.

Letter generators

Our letter generators run entirely in your browser (client-side). The information you type into a letter form — your name, address, landlord details, and so on — is not sent to our servers and is not stored in any database. It stays on your device and is used only to generate your letter.

No user accounts

We do not require registration or user accounts. We do not store personal profiles, passwords, or user data.

Contact form and email

If you contact us via the contact page or email, we will receive your name, email address, and message. We use this information only to respond to your enquiry. We do not store this information in a database or use it for marketing.

3. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics (measurement ID: G-39KY5PG5YS) to understand how people use the site — for example, which pages are most visited and how long people spend on them. This helps us improve the site and create content that is useful.

Google Analytics collects anonymous usage data, including:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • How you arrived at the site (search engine, direct link, etc.)
  • Your approximate location (country/city level only)
  • Device type, browser, and operating system

IP anonymisation is enabled, meaning your full IP address is not stored. Google Analytics data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally.

For more information, see Google's privacy policy.

4. Google AdSense

We display advertisements on the site through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info.

5. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to understand how it is used. For full details of the cookies we use and how to manage them, please see our cookie policy.

6. Third-party services

We use the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:

7. Your rights under GDPR

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access — You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — You can ask us to correct any inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure — You can ask us to delete any personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to restrict processing — You can ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Right to object — You can object to our processing of your personal data.
  • Right to data portability — You can request your data in a machine-readable format.

In practice, because we collect very little personal data (and our letter generators store none at all), most of these rights will not be applicable. However, if you have contacted us by email and wish to exercise any of these rights, please get in touch.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe your data has been handled unlawfully.

8. Data controller

The data controller for this site is The Social Tenant. You can contact us at:

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
